Small Wooden Decks

This small deck is about 18 square metres but covers the entire garden apart from the borders either side. The landscape fabric which is used to prevent weed growth under the decking, was extended to cover these borders as well. The finished deck height is flush with the patio doors so that you can step straight out, and there is a slight fall away from the house for drainage.

This was the site before work commenced. It was a new house and the only option offered by the bulders was to have grass. This would have meant buying a lawn mower then some sort of shed or unit to store it, taking up more of the little space available.

This shows my usual framing methods using pressure treated and stress graded timber, fixed with stainless steel screws. The ground was treated with weed killer and then black landscaping fabric used under the frame to prevent any further re-growth. The two posts in the background were set deep into concrete and are to support a large garden hammock.
