This is the deck almost finished. The main supports for the pergola are set into concrete footings and are also the main supports for the deck. It was built as a split level because, due to slight slope in the site, the finished deck would otherwise have been too high next to the pond.
Not a very good picture but it shows the deck and pergola from a different angle with trellis added for plants to be grown up to provide extra privacy.
This picture shows one of the main uprights, which is set into concrete, and how the framing timbers are set into it. Note how the post has been “notched out” and then the frame fixed by bolting through with stainless steel coach bolts.
This was taken very early on in the project and shows the start of the frame construction, before the weed suppression fabric was laid.
