The colours are rather odd in this picture. The deck was built as a split-level to give two clearly defined areas, and also so that the finished planking, would hide both of the existing concrete steps. As ever, there is a gap between the house walls and the deck and also the deck has a slight fall away from the house for drainage.
Taken from a different angle, notice how the front face has been “clad” to hide the frame beneath.
This shows the framing being built. Even though the deck is being built over an existing “slabbed” area, the planking still needs to be screwed to something. Notice how the frame is built so that the finished decking will cover the unsightly concrete step. Also, note the use of weed suppression fabric to prevent weeds coming through gaps in the slabs and then growing up through the deck.
This shows the original site, before work commenced. Notice the problem weeds and the two concrete steps, which were later hidden.
