This is a small deck, built to "freshen up" a tired looking patio and also includes LED lghting

This deck was designed so that the top surface is level with the door sills and there is a slight fall away from the house for drainage. Although not obvious from this picture, there is a small gap between the deck planking and the house wall so there is no possibility of damp ingress. In this case, the area was narrow from front to back, so the planking was laid at 90 degrees to the house wall to give the illusion of greater depth. You can just see some of the LED light set into the front edge.
