Unlike certain TV celebrities, I don’t use nails! All fixings are either screws or bolts. All deck planking is fully screwed which means that, if at some time in the future, a plank needs to be removed for any reason (for example to facilitate wiring for lights, or plumbing for a water feature), this can be achieved without damage.
Where decks are supported on posts (either raised, split-level or to suit a sloping site), the bearers are both notched and bolted to the support post.
For handrails, Newel posts are also notched and bolted. Balustrades and spindles are secured with no visible fixings.
All decks have a slight fall for drainage, away from any buildings and can be built to any shape or size.
